June 11, 2003 Mr. Lou Burgess Dear Lou, What a pleasure it was to work with you in planning your keynote seminar, "Painting a New picture of Performance: Leadership, Census, Service & People" for our Leadership Symposium last week. From our first conversation on the telephone last winter through dinner with the MHCA staff on the evening of your presentation, you impressed me with your vast knowledge of healthcare issues and your warm and humorous nature. There are very few national speakers who will spend the kind of time you did in preparing for a presentation. The "one size fits all" approach is definitely not your style. The fact that you personally called our President/CEO and the Chair of our Board for more information about Maine's issues speaks volumes about your commitment to presenting information that is relevant and useful to your audience. The phone survey you conducted prior to your visit was an especially effective tool for demonstrating the wide range of customer service provided in our member facilities. What an eye-opener! I have included the evaluation results for your review. Overwhelmingly, participants "strongly agree" that you are knowledgeable, well organized, and enthusiastic about the topic area. One administrator commented that he "wished he'd brought a carload of staff members." Thanks again, Lou, for joining us here in Maine. We appreciate the warm sunny weather that came with you from Arizona! I look forward to working with you again. Sincerely,
